I built this while working through my own shortlist. Why these seventeen cars, how the rows are ordered, and the rest of the story is on the blog.

Frequently asked questions

How does the weighted priority score work?
Each comparison row matches one of Carwow's March 2026 survey priorities — the percentage is how many UK women cited that factor when buying a car. In a head-to-head, the car that wins a section (most boot space, lowest price, most driver aids, and so on) earns that section's survey percentage as points. Win boot space and you get 58 points; win stylish design and you get 34. The overall winner is whoever collects the most points across the sections they win, so beating a rival on boot space counts for more than winning on child-seat space. If two cars tie in a section, nobody gets points for it. The table rows follow the survey order, not the order manufacturers usually lead with in brochures.
How do I compare family SUVs in the UK?
Pick two or three SUVs from the dropdown, choose your trim and engine, and the table compares boot space, driver aids, safety, running costs, and rear-seat practicality side by side.
Does boot size change with hybrid or PHEV engine choice?
Yes. Hybrid and PHEV versions often shrink boot space because of the battery. Select your engine in the picker to see the correct litres for that version.
Which family SUVs are included?
The tool includes What Car?'s ten best family SUVs for 2026, plus seven more popular UK models such as the Ford Puma, Nissan Qashqai, and Toyota Yaris Cross.
Why is some data missing or blank?
Specs vary by trim, model year, and engine, and not every field is published consistently. Where a cell is blank, I either haven't verified that detail yet or it doesn't apply to the trim you picked. List prices and WLTP figures are snapshots and can change.
My car isn't in the list. Can you add it?
There are only seventeen models so far because each one takes a fair bit of research. If yours is missing, email me the make, model, and trim you're comparing and I'll add it to the queue when I can.
Is this family SUV comparison free?
Yes. Open the page, pick your cars, and compare. No sign-up required.
Can I rely on this to buy a car?
Use it to narrow your shortlist and compare trim-level specs. Always check the manufacturer's official spec sheet and a dealer quote before you buy or lease.

Small print

I built this for my own shortlist. Treat it like a mate's notes, typed up from specs and test drives. Check the official spec before you sign anything.

What Car?, Carwow, Euro NCAP, and the manufacturers haven't seen this. I used their public rankings and survey as starting points. Trademarks belong to them.

WLTP figures and list prices are a snapshot. PHEV boot sizes, subscription fees, and driver aids vary by trim and model year. The winner and loser labels are just a weighted score against the Carwow sections above. They're for comparing your shortlist, not telling you what to buy.

Vehicle images are manufacturer packshots and press assets, saved locally so you can tell the cars apart in the comparison. I'm not affiliated with any car brand.
