Free Invoice Generator
A free invoice generator with no strings attached
I built this after spending hours looking for a simple invoice generator that didn't want a subscription before it would let me download a PDF. It makes professional PDF and CSV invoices for UK freelancers and sole traders, and it's free. It always will be.
It's just had its biggest update yet. I was typing the same client's details in every single month, so you can now save clients and pick them from a dropdown.
Try the Invoice Generator now! What's new in October 2026
- Saved client profiles. Fill in a client once, press 'Save as client profile' and choose them from the dropdown next time. The list is encrypted with a passphrase you pick, and it never leaves your browser.
- The due date fills itself in. It's set to 30 days after the issue date, which is a common payment term in the UK. Pick another date or clear it if your terms are different.
- A UK invoice checklist. The tool page now covers what HMRC expects on an invoice, along with answers to the questions I get asked most.
Why another invoice generator?
Most "free" invoice generators I found either:
- Limited the number of invoices you could create
- Charged for basic features like PDF export
- Collected and stored your business data on their servers
- Bombarded you with ads and upsells
I wanted a straightforward, professional tool that respects your privacy and is actually free.
What makes this one different
- Free: there's no premium tier and no invoice limit
- Private by design: it runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server
- No account needed: open it and start typing
- Open source: you can read the code and check all of this for yourself
Features
- PDF export, plus CSV for your accounting software
- Your own logo, brand colour and signature
- VAT, set to 20% by default and easy to switch off if you're not registered
- Billing by quantity or by the hour
- Percentage discounts, with VAT worked out on the discounted total
- Saved client profiles, encrypted with your passphrase
- A due date set 30 days ahead automatically
- 'Remember my details' for your own business and bank details
- Sharing straight from your phone on devices that support it
It's pounds sterling only. That's deliberate, because it keeps things simple for UK freelancers.
How to use it
- Open the Invoice Generator
- Add your business and bank details. Turn on 'Remember my details' in Settings if you want them next time.
- Fill in your client's details, or pick a client you've saved
- Add your items and choose whether to bill by quantity or by the hour
- Download a PDF to send, or a CSV for your books
Not sure what needs to go on the invoice? The tool page has a UK invoice checklist based on HMRC's guidance.
Built for privacy
Your invoices are never uploaded, and I don't collect anything you type into the generator. Two things can be saved, and only if you choose to:
- Your own details are kept in this browser when you turn on 'Remember my details'. They're scrambled before saving, but anyone using the same browser profile could recover them, so I'd skip this on a shared computer.
- Client profiles are encrypted with AES-GCM, using a key made from your passphrase. The list locks itself after 15 minutes without activity. I can't recover a forgotten passphrase, because it never leaves your device.
Both live in your browser's storage, so clearing your browsing data removes them. Safari can also clear storage for sites you haven't visited in a while, so if you use Safari and invoice less than weekly, expect to re-enter the odd client.
